5 Places Where You Wish You Had Electrical Outlets

Unless you had your home custom-built to your exact specifications, it’s probably not perfect. The majority of the houses we get to live in were built with someone else in mind, and sometimes for no one in particular. This creates many challenges, because each family has its own lifestyle and needs. And if you are one of the thousands of modern-day homeowners living in an older home, you probably wish you had more electrical outlets where you need them. As a Maryland Master Electrician I install outlets on a daily basis and can tell you that it’s a relatively easy and inexpensive fix.

Here are some of the places in a home and on your property where it would be nice to have electricity and where KD Electrical can help you install it!

High-up Outlets for Christmas Lights

Do you decorate your walls, doorways or cabinets with Christmas lights? Don’t you hate how you always have to bring the string down to plug it into an outlet? That wouldn’t be a problem if you had outlets installed slightly below the ceiling line. No more dangling cords or wasted light strings Speaking of Christmas lights, outdoor outlets along the roof line will also be handy for decking the halls!

Outdoor Outlets on Your Deck

It’s very inconvenient and unsightly to have cords creeping though your sliding doors every time you want to work on your laptop or hook up your speaker on your deck or patio. An inconspicuous GFI outlet on the side of the house will fix this issue. It will also be useful if you plan on using any appliances or power tools outside.

Middle-of-the-Wall Outlets for TV

Since TVs keep getting thinner and lighter, hanging them on the wall has become a popular thing. It’s a big space saver, but it also creates an unsightly web of dangling wires. The solution is to install an outlet behind a TV, so that it can be plugged in right there. You can often fish your cable and HDMI cables behind the TV as well, so that all cables are out of sight.

In-Floor Outlets

Homeowners who chose to install in-floor outlets often consider it one of their best home improvement decisions. In-floor outlets are very versatile and inconspicuous, and can be used for anything from plugging in your floor lamps to lighting up your Christmas tree. One of the big advantages of in-floor outlets is that they can be placed virtually anywhere, even in the middle of a room. So if you have a desk or a sewing table that is not adjacent to a wall, an in-floor outlet will help keep the cords from stretching across the floor to the nearest wall outlet.

A bonus tip: you can wire your in-floor outlets to a wall switch, so that you can turn your lamps or Christmas tree on and off with a flip of a finger.

Outlets Inside Closets and Cabinets

Trust us, you won’t regret this! Outlets inside closets are handy for plugging in devices that need charging. For example, in your utility closet you can have an outlet to charge your hand-held vacuum or your rechargeable batteries. In a bathroom closet, an outlet will help you keep the shaver off the bathroom counter. Same goes for the outlets inside cabinets. By putting an outlet inside a bathroom medicine cabinet, you can keep your electronic toothbrushes hidden until ready to use.

His work is outstanding and he is very meticulous to get it right the first time. Also, Kevin uses state-of-the-art materials instead of using cheaper material to make more of a profit. I highly recommend KD electrical services (and I wasn’t paid anything to say that)!
